The Best Eyeliner Styles for Droopy Eyes

The Best Eyeliner Styles for Droopy Eyes

Naturally droopy eyes have the disadvantage of giving you a tired look, even when you’re wide awake. Don’t even think about going under the knife to fix this little issue, though. The right tips and tricks with your eye makeup can have you looking perky and bright-eyed in no time. Put your eyeliner to work on those drooping peepers and you’ll have them sparkling with intrigue and practically begging your beaus to gaze deep into their depths.

Type and Color

A dramatic eyeliner application is the best way to lift droopy eyes, so you want a liner that can pull the effect off. Liquid eyeliner is generally the best choice for stand-out liner. However, some people find the fine tip of the liquid eyeliner brush difficult to use. If you just can’t get on board with the liquid option, opt for a pencil liner instead. Be sure to keep a sharpener on hand for a clean, fine tip every time. Black liner is always a classic option, but you can mix things up with a hue designed to accent your eye color as well. Blue eyes pop with a navy liner, brown eyes look lovely in chocolate and green-eyed girls look sweet with a touch of caramel.

Application

The classic cat-eye look is a must for droopy eyes. Keep the line heavier on the outer corners of each eye and lift it slightly as it extends past the eye. Begin by lightly dotting the liner along the lash line. Next, make a long, solid line that begins thinly at the inner corner of the eye and gets progressively thicker toward the outer edges. Sweep the liner upward at the end and extend it about a quarter inch past the edge of the eyelid. Skip the liner along the bottom lash, as this will pull the eye downward.

Adding Shadow

If you’re going for a casual daytime look, the dramatic sweep of a heavy cat eye may be a bit much. Lighten the look by adding shadow along the liner to smudge and soften the color. No matter what color palette you use for your shadow, you should keep the makeup heavier and darker along the outer corner of the eye and stick with an upward sweep to open up the eye. The best color shadow to subtly open droopy eyes is a shimmery ivory or other neutral tone.

Finishing the Look

To give this look the most oomph, finish off with picture perfect lashes. Apply mascara to the upper lashes only, following the same rule you did with the liner. Mascara on the bottom will pull the eye down. For a stunning look, stick a few false lashes onto the outer corners of your lash line to keep the focus on this area.
